As the temperatures rise, it’s time to begin preparing your air conditioner for summer. The last thing you want is for those summer temperatures to arrive and your air conditioning is not working properly. Spring in Pittsburgh is the perfect time to have annual maintenance performed on your air conditioning unit.
Steps for Annual Air Conditioner Maintenance
We recommend using a professional to complete your annual AC maintenance. It is safer and easier to allow the professionals with the right tools and the right knowledge to handle the job rather than risk damaging your unit while trying to maintain it on your own.
The team at VENTEC will complete the following maintenance for your AC unit to prepare it for the summer season:
Replace or Clean the Filters
We will remove and replace or clean your filters if they look clogged with dust. This should be done twice a year to prevent buildup. If your filter becomes clogged, it will restrict the airflow of your unit and will greatly reduce the efficiency of your air conditioner. Dusty filters will also cause dust to recirculate through the home.
Clean the Condenser Coils
While servicing your unit, we will be sure to clear away any debris that has accumulated. Since the condenser unit is typically located outside, it gathers debris.
Once we make sure the box is clear of debris, we will look at the coils and check to see if there is debris clogging them. If there is debris in the coils, they will need to be cleaned.
The team at VENTEC uses a special cleaning solution that works to effectively clean your condenser coils and is safer than using tools like brushes which can damage the coils.
Clear and Clean Away Debris From the Unit
We will then clear out any leaves or debris around the base of the condenser. We will also clean off the blower fan blades and any excess water that is inside of the unit, and then once it’s all clean and clear, we will reassemble the condenser unit.
Inspect Your Coolant Lines
These tubes run from your unit’s evaporator on the air handler to the condenser located outside. We will check to make sure none of the insulation is missing or damaged, and if it is, we will replace it.
Test Your Air Conditioning Unit
Once we’ve cleaned the unit and the filters, we will give the unit time to dry and then run all necessary tests to ensure your AC unit is running smoothly!
